About Us

My name is Mike Lamereaux and I live in the city of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

In 1995 I purchased my first finches. I bought a pair of Gouldians and a pair of Masked Grass finches. Over the next few years I was so fascinated with these little birds that I continued to buy more and different species.

I have a bird room on the 2nd floor with 2 large walk-in aviaries about 6' x 6' by 9' high each, some stacked foster cages with societies and some holding cages for the birds I raise. My wife and I decided to build our own aviaries. We sat down and made a diagram of our ideas. We used recycled doors and glass along with rolls of wire. We used glass in the front so we can see the birds and made sliding glass doors at the bottom so we can feed without going inside. Needless to day I just couldn't stop. The bird room eventually got too full and we started setting up cages in the basement. Luckily we have a large home with lots of room. I don't know if I have more birds upstairs or in the basement........ there are too many to count.

One of my dreams was to have an outside aviary. In 2003 I built one the shape of an "L" along our garage. I put some birds outside in May and they were so happy and even more colorful till fall. I added another section onto the first outside aviary the next year. This section is smaller but allows me to breed other bloodlines. The total dimensions of the "L" shaped outside ariaries are 30' x 4' by 9' high.

My wife's name is Sandy and she helps with cleaning, nail trimming, banding, record keeping, raising mealworms and just about anything else to keep me organized. She has totally supported me and my hobby that has gotten out of hand a few times. Sandy loves to garden and we also have a pond.

Both my wife and I have full time jobs. I have a house and 7 apartments to maintain and manage. I also collect architectural items from buildings before they are demolished and consign them at a shop. We collect antiques but had to slow down so we could dedicate more time to the birds which will possibly be our retirement past time in about 6 years.

We enjoy having people stop by to see our set up and share bird experiences. If you are in the area and have some time, please call to see if we are available.
